Thanks for the 2017 festival − See you again on August 11-18, 2018!

The programme will be announced in April.

Östergötland Music Days invites you to enjoy classical music and jazz in our lovely region.

The festival’s main cities are Linköping and Norrköping. But we play all over the province, in castles, churches, art museums, concert halls etc.

The festival opens on the inner court-yard of the Linköping Castle.

At the 2017 festival star soprano Camilla Tilling was featured in a Mozart and Strauss program with the Östgöta Symphonic Winds – one of Sweden’s five professional wind ensembles. The concert, which was doubled in Åtvidaberg the day after, was conducted by our Artistic Director, Staffan Mårtensson, who also performed as clarinetist in the festival.

We were proud to announce Mikael Karlsson as our Composer-in Residence. Mikael, a resident of New York since long, has scored tremendous successes at the opera houses in Vienna, Paris, Oslo and Stockholm with his breath-taking, modernistic ballet music. He is a prolific composer of computer game music, film scores etc.

The American Academy of Arts and Letters has called Mikael “an exceptional composer”. The 2017 festival  presented the first full exposure of his chamber music.

During the week you could meet some of Sweden’s most prominent artists, such as pianists Henrik Måwe and Magnus Svensson, the Dahlkvist String Quartet, the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, guitarist Per Skareng, soprano Sofie Asplund, violinist Paul Waltman, flautist Sara Hammarström, percussionist Niklas Brommare and actors Hannes Meidal and Stina von Sydow. Local professional groups included the Crusell Wind Quintet and the Östgöta Brass Quintet.

As for jazz, you could hear one of the country’s most legendary musicians, composer and bass player Georg Riedel, who had composed explicitly for the Östgöta Jazz Band. They performed together in Norrköping, Linköping and Kinda.

Children of all ages are welcome to each and all of our concerts, but this year we also had specific children’s concerts, in Linköping and Norrköping.

Our program contains a number of interesting venues to visit, not only for the music but for the guided tours and exhibits, for a picknick or a moment of church tranquility.

Welcome to enjoy wonderful music in a province of beauty!
